The udu, which originated from traditional Kenyan music, is usually made of clay. Nowadays, fiberglass udus are also common.
Majid Drums has developed two variations of this instrument over the last 12 years, both based on a wooden body :
the Ta-Udu and the Udu Wood.
The Udu Wood is a further development of the Ta-Udu , resulting in a completely new type of drum.
It features two additional playing surfaces made of calfskin, goatskin, or fish skin.
Fish skin provides a clear, clean attack, while calfskin delivers a warm sound with characteristic resonance.
As is typical for Majid Drums instruments, the skin-covered playing surfaces can be tuned using a screw system .
In addition to the three striking surfaces, this drum is also equipped with two kaskaritas , which expand the sound. These kaskaritas allow for the quick creation and playing of a Latin sound.
Incidentally, the kaskaritas are also a patented design by Master Majid and are made from various types of wood.
This percussion instrument is not only visually striking, but also truly special in terms of sound and versatility. Depending on the playing style, up to eight different sounds can be produced simultaneously .
Thanks to the tuning capability of this wooden udu, the possibilities are endless.
No matter how often the drum is played, it never gets boring.
